Music Picks—January

Everyone needs some songs to add to their current playlist. I’m still in the process of making the perfect playlist for the current month, so I figured I’d share some of the songs that have been getting the most plays on my Spotify recently. Check out the end of the article for a listen to all of the songs featured and a few extras.

“Pompeii” – Bastille

This is a pretty obvious choice since this song seems to be everywhere at the moment. I hear this maybe 3 or so times a day at work and I never fail to completely jam out to it every time.

“Cannonball” – Lea Michele

I have the biggest girl crush on Lea Michele and I’m not even going to deny it. Although I am a former Gleek—sorry but after graduation the show went to hell—Lea might be one of the only stars of the show that has the potential to become more than a Glee star. Also, after the tragedy of losing her fiance, I’m rooting for her.

“Daydream” – Tori Kelly

I know I’m a little late to the Tori Kelly party but she’s amazing. Honestly, I’m going to suggest listening to ever Tori Kelly song but the dreamer in me loves this song the most.

“Who We Are” – Imagine Dragons

I love Imagine Dragons and I loved Catching Fire, so this song is basically my idea of perfection. It’s not my all time favorite Imagine Dragons song but it’s different and has a cool vibe to it.

“Things We Lost in The Fire” – Bastille

Yeah, I’m putting another Bastille song on this list—deal. It’s probably my favorite Bastille song and I really don’t have a good reason for that. It’s catchy in the weird way, and I think that’s why I like the song.

“Follow Your Arrow” – Kacey Musgraves

I know I’ve strayed from country for quite sometime but Kacey is the perfect exception. She’s a little rough around the edges when it comes to country music and I think that’s my draw to her. She’s different and I like it. Plus “Make lots of noise, kiss lots of boys” is my kind of line.

“The Best Thing (That Never Happened)” – We Are The In Crowd

I’m not even going to pretend that I don’t have the biggest girl crush on Tay Jardine. She’s exactly what pop punk needs right now, and it’s very exciting that We Are The In Crowd are finally getting some spotlight.  They’re a favorite of mine and such a fun time to see live.

“Cool Kids” – Ecosmith

I honestly don’t know anything about this band because of the fact that I stumbled onto them. I was just browsing around Spotify when I saw the song and gave it a listen, and I’m very glad I did. It’s got such a cool vibe to it and I’m definitely checking out more from the group.

Honorable Mention:

“You Sound Good To Me” – Lucy Hale

I’m still getting used to the idea of Lucy Hale as a singer, so honorable mention for now.
