Children of the 90s rejoice—exciting things are happening. Disney released a trailer for the highly anticipated new series, Girl Meets World—a spin-off/sequel to iconic 90s show Boy Meets World.
The show—which premiers this summer—will follow the adventures of Riley (Rowan Blanchard), the child of high school sweet hearts Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel). Many of the fans’ favorite characters will return including the one and only Mr. Feeney (William Daniels) and my first “bad boy” crush Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong).
20-somethings everywhere lost it—in the good way—when it was announced this show was in the works. Now that a first look is out, it’s the moment of truth. In reality, this show has so much potential. Some are worried about the network—with good reason. I mean, Disney just released a show called Dog With A Blog. Ludicrous—everyone knows only 20-something women are allowed to blog! Just kidding.
Anyway, it’s Disney Channel, they’re going to center around the child rather than the parents. I hate to point this out to my fellow 90s children, but that’s what the show is about. We had our chance to experience the life of Cory and Topanga when we were growing up. Girl Meets World is giving this generation of children that opportunity. It’s not for us—it’s for them. We learned so many life lessons from the BMW gang and frankly—I’m thrilled another generation of kids might be able to experience the love we all felt for one TV show.
